CORONA - AND MANNEKEN PIS

My comments the other day were dealing with the Corona virus.  I pointed out that according to the World Health Organisation WHO about 660.000 people die each year worldwide because of flu.

Medical specialists in different countries have underlined the same fact.  The Corona is also a flu.  It infects easier than “normal” flu.  But it is not necessarily more dangerous than the traditional yearly ones.  People who were already hit by it confirm that.
So there is no reason to panic.  Keep calm and carry on, as specialists tell us.  Use your common sense. Wash your hands more frequently and more energetic than you perhaps normally do.  Keep an eye on the elder members of your family. And contact your doctor, if you think that the Corona has hit you.
The number of Corona cases in China seems to decrease.  But the virus has now reached more countries in Europe – in addition to Italy – such as Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece and Spain.  In most cases infected people have had contact to Italy or China.
Here in Belgium the authorities are also ready to handle possible infected people.  Even our national icon, Manneken Pis, is ready.  His dress for the moment is – of course – a mask.  
The EU has a few days ago donated 250 mill € to fight the Corona virus, in particular to support the ongoing research for an efficient vaccine.
So in other words:  Be vigilant. Wash hands very frequently, esp. when you are been out and around.  But no not let panic carry you away.  See it all in the bigger context.   Go on living as usual.  And should you be one of the few to be infected, then the authorities are there, ready to help you.

AMERICA IS COMING BACK TO THE WORLD !

NOVEMBER 24: This is the day! The day when president Trump finally three weeks after the American elections de facto accepts that Joe Biden has won the elections.   And won by a big margin.   So, now US is coming back to the world.   The nominations president-elect Biden is doing shows that he is choosing experienced and professional people, who know what they will be responsible for.   This is also great news for Europe.    The European-American relations will now come back on the track – as real allies, not as sort of adversaries, as Trump preferred to see them.   EU president Charles Michel yesterday congratulated Biden with his victory and invited him to a summit meeting with EU in Brussels next year, after he has taken over in January. The EU with its 448 mio. inhabitants and the US with 328 mio. have a lot in common.   Their mutual trade is huge. MY FIRST SCHOOL DAY - April 2, 1952

MY VERY FIRST SCHOOL DAY -  April 2, 1952: Today ( April 2, 2021 )   it is exactly 69 – sixtynine – years ago, since I started going to school. This is a long time ago. It was in 1952. But I still remember it, as if it were yesterday. Can you understand that ? It was a wonderful, sunny morning.   I had for such a long time been looking forward to going to school.   Ok, I could already read and I could also write reasonably.   But I wanted to learn much more. And quickly! I knew that we were 4 kids in our village, who should start that day. Two girls and two boys. I knew the other three well.
