ERASMUS AND ERASMUS+
My special comments today will be a short description of the ERASMUS and ERASMUS+ programme. It is the EU programmes for exchange of students and other young people mostly between EU member states.
The programme has existed since 1987, and about 10 million people have taken part so far. The Commission and a number of member states such as France want to double the budget for ERASMUS in the future.
What ERASMUS and ERASMUS+ offer is financial support for the exchanges AND a guarantee that the exams taken in other countries during the exchange are fully valid in the home country.
You may ask, if it is all worth it? The answer is simple: it is a huge personal benefit for the people taking part. Not only do they move on in their studies. They get a personal hands-on experience in living and working for a period in another country. And for their home countries is it a huge advantage to have a lot of people with that experience. Imagine how business, education, public services, etc. can profit from it. You can never get too many good experiences in life! ERASMUS is a real European success story.
