INDEPENDENT COURTS - AND POLAND AND HUNGARY

It is often discussed that in particular Poland and Hungary in many ways are the naughty boys in the class - meaning that they do not respect some of the fundamental rules of the EU.  One of these very important principles is that the courts in all member states have to be independent of the government and make rulings according to all law in force, including EU legislation. The Belgian president of the European Court of Justice (EU's highest court ), Mr. Koen Lanaerts, visited Poland a few days ago.  In a speech he said the following:  "You can't be a member og the European Union, if you don't have independent, impartial courts operating in accordance with fair-trial rule, upholding union law".

It cannot be said more clearly.  And many Polish and other European judges have also participated in demostrations in Poland against the Polish government's present attacks against the independent courts of the country.
