BRAHMS MUSIC DURING THE PANDEMIC

Today I want to write about lovely music.

The new and very impressive concert hall in Hamburg, the Elbphilharmonie, sent out before Easter together with NDR ( Norddeutscher Rundfunk ) greetings to all their contacts. It includes a link to a very special concert, which some of the musicians of its symphony orchestra play. They play part of Johannes Brahms’ 1st symphony.  But not in the usual way.  Each musician is placed in a separate room due to the present pandemic.   And still they manage to perform a magnificent concert. This is modern communication when it is at its best.

See and listen here:

They call it a Concert of Hope for the World.

Johannes Brahms ( 1833-97 ) was from Hamburg. He was a composer, a pianist and a conductor during the romantic period.  See photo.  And it was exactly that symphonie, which was on the programme, when the Elbphilharmonie was officially opened in 2017.

The Elbphilharmonie is Hamburg’s biggest and one of Europe’s biggest and most modern concert houses.  It was built in Hamburg’s famous harbour between 2007 and 2017, and the costs were 866 mill. €.  Its biggest concert hall has room for 2.100 guests.

See photos of the Elbphilharmonie from the outside as well as of the Grosser Saal.
