IMPORTANT ELECTIONS IN 2021
We have started on a new year. A year, when a number of important elections are coming up.
Free
democratic elections are of fundamental importance in any real democracy. Organised at regular intervals, and in which
politicians with many different attitudes may freely participate. And when the
result of the election is there, it will be accepted by everybody – on the
condition that the rule for elections have been respected. This is how it is in OUR part of the
world. Unfortunately, this is only the
case in a minority of countries around the world. And the recent development in the USA is
putting their system and our perception of it under severe pressure ☹
One of the
purposes of my daily TODAY is to follow the political development in Europe.
Especially in our 26 partner countries in the EU. We are today so dependent upon one another,
that what happens in one country has important influence on all of us. In positive
ways and negative ways – fortunately mostly in positive ones. We are doing so
many things together today, that we very much depend upon each other. This is
one of the consequences of the fact that we have chosen a cooperation with
clear and concrete rights and commitments.
If each of our countries just tried to go it alone we would no longer
have the important joint influence on developments, be it political, economical,
social and cultural, which is necessary to protect and develop our welfare and our
way of life. It’s as simple as that 😊
And one point
more: We can and should also learn from
one another! Wisdom and political skills
do not only exist in your own country. Open your eyes and ears – and become
more wise and experienced day after day 😊
That is why I
– like earlier – will follow and describe coming elections in 2021 in our many
countries.
The most
important ones are:
Jan. 24: Portugal:
Presidential elections
Mar. 13-15: Netherlands:
Parliamentary elections
Mar. 28: Bulgaria: Parliamentary elections
May 6: Scotland and Wales: Regional
elections
June: France:
Regional elections
Sep. 13: Norway – Parliamentary elections
Sep. 26: Germany: Parliamentary elections
Oct.
8-9: Czech Republic: Parliamentary elections
In addition a
number of Länder elections will take place in Germany – starting in March. And Italy might also have parliamentary
elections, if the ongoing crisis is not solved.
So, in a few
days I will write about Portugal and the elections on Sunday.
